Project Cargo & Yacht Transport ships 33 m / 90 t yacht

In Uncategorized on August 27, 2010 at 1:26 pm

Project Cargo & Yacht Transport, a GPLN member in Turkey, recently completed the successful shipment of a 33 meter / 90 ton yacht belonging to a sheikh from the United Arab Emirates. This yacht was being built in a shipyard in Tuzla, Bosnia-Hercegovina, but the shipyard unfortunately went bankrupt. This ended up in the unfortunate situation that the sheikh had to buy his own yacht back from the Bosnian government the he wanted to bring it to the United Arab Emirates to finish the work.

“It had no engine installed yet and we had to carry the main body,” said Erim Tabib, General Director of Project Cargo & Yacht Transport, “As Tuzla is not a costumed port, we had to load the yacht from Derince but bringing the yacht from Tuzla to Derince was a problem because it had no engine to sail itself. Therefore we had to arrange tugs to pull it to Derince with a four hour operation. We had to make the yacht ready at Derince before vessel’s arrival, otherwise the owners would claim detention.”

“Our yacht was berthed at a free berth, waiting for the vessel’s arrival. After the vessel arrived we had to bring the yacht alongside the vessel, so we needed tug boat operation again. The tug boats came again, brought the yacht alongside. The vessel could lift the 90 tons yacht with its own gear since actually had a lifting capacity up to 160 tons.”

“We have the knowledge and joy to take care of every hassle and detail.”

ITJ’s Roland Hofacker takes GPLN with him when he hikes in the Austrian mountains

In Uncategorized on August 26, 2010 at 1:09 pm

Roland Hofacker of the International Transport Journal recently went on vacation in Austria and he sent us some photos back. We were very happy to see that he was wearing our very own GPLN baseball cap while hiking in the Austrian Alps. Incidentally Roland had the best Apfelstrudel he had in his life there in Austria. It makes us jealous!

The Freight Company (Vietnam) transports of pontoons to Dampier Port

In Uncategorized on August 25, 2010 at 7:13 pm

GPLN Vietnam member, The Freight Company Ltd. (TFC), recently was awarded the transport of pontoons and components for the enlargement of the Burrup Materials Facility in North West Australia. Under the contract TFC sourced a suitably heavy lift geared vessel to load the cargo at Vung Tau Port in Vietnam and transport the cargo to Dampier Port in Australia. A special spreader bar had to be ordered to lift the pontoons that weighed up to 168 metric tons (MT). Loading of the vessel commenced in the morning of 19th July as TFC had to wait for the high tide to launch and tow the pontoons from the fabricating yard to alongside ship. In the morning around 0930 hrs the Access Way and the 1st pontoon were finally towed alongside the vessel. As the pontoon exceeded the lifting capacity of a single crane they had to be lifted with two cranes working in tandem.

The cranes had to be set up so that the access way could go be placed at extreme edge of the deck in order to create enough space for the pontoons. However due to the length of 55 meters loading the access way proved not to be an easy job! The crane boom had to slew to its maximum and raise the boom straight up to slide one end of the access way and then the other end through the space between the two cranes. After aligning the access way to its right position the first pontoon was about to be loaded. This was really the toughest move as the distance from the hatch-cover edge to the access way had been significantly reduced which made it very hard to slew the other end of the pontoon into the remaining space as can be seen on the pictures which gives a good idea with how little room we had to play on this move. It turned out to be precision work which was necessary as any wrong move by a few centimeters could have caused damage to the specially designed and highly valued cargo.

All in all preparation, coordination, experience, timing, professionalism and team-work played important roles in performing such a precision task which led to the completion of a successful loading operation! After a couple of day’s hard work the loading was finally completed and the vessel left Vung Tau Port direction to Australia.

The cargo’s details:

Quantity / Descriptions / Dimension / Est. Weight per unit

1 Pontoon 1 47.50m x 7.80m x 2.25m 165 mt

1 Pontoon 2 47.50m x 7.80m x 2.25m 168 mt

1 Pontoon 3 35.00m x 4.80m x 2.25m 110 mt

1 Access Way 55.00m x 4.80m x 2.00m 122 mt

2 struts 45.50m x 1.60m (diameter) 25 mt

1 strut 45.50m x 1.60m (diameter) 40 mt

1 strut 45.50m x 1.60m (diameter) 50 mt

Kita Transport Services moved 42,000 CBM wind turbine equipment from Europe to Turkey

In Uncategorized on August 23, 2010 at 5:06 pm

Turkish based GPLN member, Kita Transport Services, has been involved in air, sea, land transport, integrated logistics as well as project transport. During the first half of 2010, Kita Transport Services moved a 35 MW wind power plant consisting of 14 units of GE 2.5 MW wind turbines. The goods were moved from Germany and other parts of Europe into Iskenderun, Turkey, by land and sea.

The overall project volume was over 42,000 cbm and all of the cargo has been delivered on time with no damages. The most difficult part of the project was to tackle the extreme cold weather conditions in Europe, which is the worst in the last 50 years, especially during the February and March. The 50 m long blades were to be moved a distance of over 500 km overland. Under these climatic circumstances these moves were a serious challenge. The goods were loaded on four ships at a -15 degree Celsius temperature and also over 20 trucks were loaded for the cargo to be moved by land route to the jobsite in Turkey. Kita Transport Services had moved the first wind farm to Turkey in 1999 on a door-to-door basis and since then Kita has moved a significant amount of wind turbine equipment to various wind farms in Turkey.

About Kita Transport Services

Since 1995 Kita Transport Services has been one of the leading Turkish logistics companies which is involved in air, sea, land freight as well as warehousing, domestic distribution and project logistics. The head office is located in Istanbul with branches in Izmir and Bursa. Kita has a staff of over 250 providing international and domestic logistics services. All Kita Transport Services trucks are equipped with GPS systems enabling real time tracking of truck positions. Nazha & Darwish should feel right at home in GPLN due to the fact that three-out-of their four references were current GPLN members in good standing (in three different regions of the world I might add) and the company that recommended them for membership was also a GPLN member. This speaks highly to me that this company will get right to work with the other GPLN members around the world. In fact, since Nazha & Darwish applied for membership we had two members come forward looking for help in Syria already. AICL Accepts Challenge – Provides total solution for Yacht Mold Delivery from China to the USA

In Uncategorized on July 28, 2010 at 8:59 am

Asia Imperial Cargo Logistics (AICL), recently took up the challenge and completed the transport of a yacht mold with a total volume of 3,000cbm, having dimensions of 140 ft long by 30 ft wide by 24.6 ft high, from Shanghai, China to Vancouver, WA, USA.

AICL faced several difficulties in handling this shipment. The dimension was too large to be delivered by barge and conventional line in one piece. Working with the yacht manufacturer to determine the best way to deliver the mold was in two pieces, using two barges from our client’s factory to the Port of Shanghai, where the two pieces would be assembled for loading on the assigned break bulk vessel.

The client, lacking the knowledge of how to provide the break bulk carrier with proper structural drawings for loading and lashing, AICL coordinated with the yacht manufacturer and the break bulk carrier to produce the structural documents to the satisfaction of all concerned. AICL, having the structural documents in hand were then able to assemble the two pieces of the mold and design a special loading and lashing plan for this 3000 cbm / 70 ton shipment for safe delivery to the consignee in Vancouver, Washington, USA. The shipment arrived on time and to the highest satisfaction of our client.

Since most of the yacht manufacturers are based in Taiwan and China area, where AICL’s own offices are located, AICL is in a unique position to provide customized and highly-responsive service to their clients in the most efficient and cost-effective way. This case is a good example to show how AICL turn mission impossible into possible.

AICL was established in 2000 and headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan, with branch offices in Taipei, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan as well as branch offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, and Tianjin, China. Based on its strong network of offices, AICL possess the flexibility and expertise to respond to the ever changing markets locally and internationally. From handling project cargos to general forwarding traffic, each client can expect personal attention in the handling of their shipments from the point of origin to its final destination.

Turkish GPLN member Project Cargo & Yacht Transport dominate their niche in the Turkish market

In Uncategorized on July 7, 2010 at 12:17 pm

Project Cargo & Yacht Transport is the only international transportation firm in Turkey incorporating all logistics support required for boats, yachts, and energy industry as well. Project Cargo & Yacht Transport carries out boat and yacht transportation with its professional team who have all necessary qualifications for their field, especially for the European Union and also the Middle East, North Africa, and Far East markets. Project Cargo & Yacht Transport has been performing transportation operations with over 250 boats, motorized yachts, sailing boats, assault boats and catamarans having different dimensions from 6 meters to 40 meters and weighing from 10 tons to 250 tons.

The synergy Project Cargo & Yacht Transport created in the industry with team spirit, having experience in the field, and more importantly being professionally responsible is greatly appreciated by local customers and in the global market as well.

Project Cargo & Yacht Transport started off in 2006 with a professional team consisting of individuals who only specialise in project cargo, heavy freight and yacht transport. Their 13 years experience in the transport sector removed them from the approach “we can carry it all” and moved Project Cargo & Yacht Transport closer to the idea of carrying specific and exclusive cargoes and focusing on this niche only. They have therefore taken their place in the sector as an initiator with a different concept which only serves in the door-to-door transport of specific cargoes. On top of that it is an indisputable fact that such transport requires a firm financial strength. One of the most pre-eminent factors in Project Cargo & Yacht Transport being able to conclude well any operations it has undertaken and to render services of high quality is its strong financial structure.

The Yacht Department successfully carries out its motor yacht, sailboat, assault boat, catamaran loadings from 5 meters to 42 meters and from 10 tons to 220 tons and also accommodates in its organization the logistics group which supports such transport. Just last month Project Cargo & Yacht Transport transported 12 yachts from the United States to Turkey successfully by specialized vessel for boat transport different types of yachts were carried at the same time. Some of the yachts, for example, that Project Cargo & Yacht Transport transported had dimensions of:

LOA BREADTH DISPLACEMENT
50′ 14′ 20 mt
55′ 13′ 27 mt
55′ 15’6” 20 mt
47′ 14′ 28.5 mt
69′ 17′ 47 mt
78′ 18′ 58 mt

They exported two 18 m Coast Guard vessels from Turkey to Abu Dhabi:

Some of the operations were hard because of the dimensions:

But as always the specialized staff of Project Cargo & Yacht Transport are ready to handle the heavy lifting projects and yachts.

Pontoon bound for the Snapper Mineral Sands Project being offloaded from the vessel in the Port of Adelaide

In Uncategorized on March 29, 2010 at 10:58 am

Working on behalf of the Snapper Mineral Sands Project in Northern New South Wales, Australia, and with a tight schedule and window of opportunity, Westlink Logistics has seamlessly managed the uplifting and transportation of ten large pontoons from Indonesia through the Port of Adelaide to Pooncarie in southwestern New South Wales.

Weighing in at 75 tons each, and with dimensions of 32.0 x 6.0 x 3.77 metres, transporting the pontoons posed the Westlink Logistics’ team a number of interesting physical challenges which were all passed with flying colours – thanks to professionalism, careful planning and a number of pre-visits to the Indonesian manufacturers and load out facilities to ensure that all contingencies were covered. For example, since the chartered vessel was to be moored several kilometres offshore, it was necessary to use barges and tugs to transport the pontoons within reach of the ship’s hooks. In order to meet stringent AQIS standards, the pontoons and barges had to be thoroughly cleaned and inspected by Westlink’s team before the process could commence.

The scheduling issues were compounded by unforseen circumstances which led to a delay of two weeks at the manufacturing plant. Quick thinking by Westlink’s Mike Maxwell and his colleagues, a lateral approach to problem solving and robust negotiation skills were required to ensure that the chartered vessel (which had its own schedules to meet) did not leave without the cargo. As a result, the pontoons were stowed and shipped partly completed, and once the cargo was safely unloaded, Westlink arranged for a lay down area to be made available at the Port of Adelaide so that fabrication could be finished in Australia – thus saving the client thousands of dollars.

The final stage, uplifting the finished pontoons onto transporters with steerable jinkers, and negotiating a carefully planned route with police escort from Adelaide through to Pooncarie in New South Wales was accomplished without a hitch. For Trent Robson, Westlink Logistics’ General Manager, and his team of professionals, the job is not just about the cargo, its size, fragility and dimensions. And the shipping component is certainly only part of the equation. It’s all about looking at the challenges involved at the macro level, and planning for all the micro issues along the way.

“Timing, reliability and close control of the cargo on its journey was paramount for the client. The shipping program that we developed included a dedicated, direct charter voyage. We closely managed all aspects from the point of collection right through to ultimate delivery on site,” said Robson, “As a result of our success in handling the first shipment, we have subsequently been awarded the contract to transport 200 smaller float line pontoons for the same project. By delivering the goods as well as the promises, Westlink has developed a strong tradition in gaining repeat business.”

Breakbulk Asia 2010: Janet Nodar, Editor or Breakbulk Magazine, visits GPLN’s Booth

In Uncategorized on March 13, 2010 at 4:02 pm

For the second year in a row the Global Project Logistics Network has shown its commitment to Breakbulk Asia. Breakbulk Asia is the largest and most important gathering in Asia for companies involved in the shipping of heavy-lift, project cargo and traditional breakbulk cargoes. It is where shippers have the opportunity to meet and develop relationships with the leading specialized carriers, forwarders, ports, terminals and packers who have the expertise and resources to handle oversized cargoes with unique handling requirements. Exhibitors include the world’s major carriers, forwarders and ports that handle specialized heavy-lift, project and breakbulk cargoes. The Breakbulk Asia event is an outgrowth of the Breakbulk Conference and Exhibition held in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the southern part of the United States since 1989 and the Breakbulk Europe event held in Antwerp since 2006. In addition to a bustling exhibition floor, Breakbulk Asia featured a two-day conference with top speakers addressing the theme "Charting the Recovery". The in-depth program delved into today’s most pressing breakbulk transportation issues: from cargo security to trade compliance and materials tracking initiatives. Speakers also discussed the hottest regions for breakbulk and project cargo, and review sectors such as oil and gas, and other power generation markets.

Grove Crane readied for movement to Qatar’s Dolphin Gas Project

In Uncategorized on March 10, 2010 at 4:02 pm

GPLN member Arshiya Logistics WLL (formerly BDP Qatar WLL) handled some Groove Cranes movement from Michel Machinery Company Inc in the United States for the Qatari Shareholding Company (QSC) who is engaged into Dolphin Gas Project and several projects for RasGas / Qatar Gas in Qatar.

Arshiya Logistics WLL(Qatar) with help of 5K Logistics handled this project movement Ex-USA factory to Qatar project site. The transportation was done using a MAFI-Cargo trailers from the factory to GalvestonPort. The pick up locations were:

- St. Louis, Missouri – 2 cranes

- Corpus Christi, Texas – one crane

- Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – one crane

A breakulk vessel from Galveston Port, United States, to Doha, Qatar was booked. Arshiya Logistics also handled inland haulage from DohaPort to the Qatari client’s site using low bed trailers and as well was engaged into arranging the duty waiver and exemption for this client at Doha Customs. Along with the haulage Arshiya arranged the police escort and Qatar Traffic Department permissions.

Initially, QSC had to move total four Grove cranes and the value was approx USD 1.8 million. Technical specifications were 581.624 m3 and total gross weight of 160 tons with height of 3.5 meters. There were letter of credit problems considering the time deadline, etc., and many bottlenecks in documentation because the supplier was dealing with Qatar client for the first time.

QSC nominated GPLN member Arshiya Logistics, considering Arshiya’s professionalism in project logistics globally. But handling projects requires special personalized touch as well as technical expertise because it is totally different ball game than normal containerized business. The following hurdles are confirm that if any project movement is given to any inexperienced service provider just based on rates then blue chip clients are off course paying penalties for their decision.

1) Just one day before the vessel arrival in Galveston Port Hurricane Ike hit the area.

2) Power, water issues keep GalvestonPort offline for about two weeks after Hurricane Ike left the port and much of the region. There was no trace of any shipment as the Port Authority closed the port.

3) But for Arshiya Logistics WLL (Qatar) it was matter client serving and 100% transparency. Arshiya Logistics arranged a 3rd-party surveyor to the port with help the help of 5K Logistics, the GPLN member in Philadelphia. The surveyor accessed the cranes and completed the survey. Everything was okay except some few tires, which were affected because of mud.

4) Most of the vessels cancelled calling at GalvestonPort after this hurricane.

5) These cranes were lying in GalvestonPort for almost 45 days.

Shipment was urgent for the Qatari company and for that they had full trust in Arshiya Logistics’s reliability and professionalism. Arshiya Logistics managed to get the shipment out from United States and in Doha within 40 days without any rate hike and port storage issues.

Arshiya Logistics team of Mr. Vaibhav Malpekar and Mr. Jigar Shah, with 5K Logistics (Mr. Paul J McGrath and team) were in full coordination and had conference calls almost every day in order to work out alterative solutions so that the delivery of these four cranes to the client could be managed as per prior commitment, in spite of all these hurdles.

Arshiya Logistics is handling more projects for the New Doha International Airport (NDIA) as well as KAHRAMA (the Qatar Water & Electricity Board).

Trans International Logistics off loads oversize cargo for synthetic latex plant

In Uncategorized on March 10, 2010 at 4:02 pm

Trans International Logistiks Sdn Bhd, a GPLN member in Malaysia, recently completed the project cargo movements from Europe and Asia for the Synthetic Latex Global Plant located in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia with a total project volume of about 20,000 FRT.

As indirect tax exemption consultants for the project, we had successfully applied our expertise in submitting, tabulating and obtaining exemption approvals from the authorities. We also excelled in applying and obtaining import permits and governmental certification from regulatory bodies for the importation of their special equipments and machineries.

Other than general cargoes by sea, air and road transports, the project included movements of heavy lift cargoes of 3 reactors at 95 tons each and 3 strippers at 65 tons each and other over-dimensioned cargoes. For the heavy lifts, on-carriage to site was arranged on multi-axle trailers after temporary storage on elephant legs and beams so as to be in coordination with the plant site readiness and receiving management.

Trans International Logisiks was proud to report that all deliveries were executed well within the required time frames and with zero untoward incidents.

Almajdouie Logistics World Booth at Breakbulk Asia 2010

In Uncategorized on March 7, 2010 at 4:02 pm

Ticona Project: Two shore cranes offloading steel rack

In Uncategorized on March 4, 2010 at 7:01 am

Europe Cargo was approached for the reception in Antwerp ex geared coaster up to barged to Fluor Terminal Frankfurt, Germany. The vessel, MV Jumbo Vision loaded in Punta Cugno, Italy and sailed from Punta Cugno port. The project consisted of 37 pieces of preassembled steel rack (858.303 mt / 14,095.695 m3), two cases of lifting equipment (2,276 mt / 6 m3) and eight pieces of lifting equipment (adjustable spreader bars / extenders: 7478 mt / 18 m3).

Europe Cargo’s supervisor reported that the cargo was loaded under deck as well as on deck. On Europe Cargo’s instructions, the crew unlashed the chains and unwelded stoppers and D-rings upon arrival at the Antwerp port.

The cargo was unloaded at the Europe Cargo terminal with specialized and necessary stevedore lifting equipment (extenders – easily adjustable) and by two Gottwald motorized mobile cranes with capacities of 100 mt (not by ship’s gear due to outreach and storage onto the shore and two cranes instead of one due to length of the cargo).

Due to the large storage area required, MV Jumbo Vision had to shift 40 m. Europe Cargo jointly surveyed unloading operations with the receiver’s appointed surveyors. Europe Cargo also arranged customs clearance in Antwerp. After unloading, necessary repairs and cleaning of the frames was arranged and took several days. When this was completed Europe Cargo ordered and arranged loading of four barges (110 m x 45 m) for the inland transport via Rhine river to the final Frankfurt site.

Europe Cargo’s professional expertise in the project was highly appreciated by the receivers’ engineers!

Cory Logistics transports redundant Steel Mill Equipment in Sheffield to be sent to India via the Port of Hull

In Uncategorized on March 3, 2010 at 1:16 pm

Cory Logistics, GPLN member in the United Kingdom, have been busy in the ‘home of stainless steel’ in 2009 and will continue to work through 2010. The first phase moving is a softener and de-scaler line from a redundant Sheffield Steel mill to its new home in India.

The steel industry in Sheffield dated back to the 14th Century. By the turn of the new century the Sheffield economy diversified and it is Cory Logistics who has been employed to remove and ship part of this manufacturing plant to India.

This project has been jointly operated with Canadian SCAC, and will move a total one hundred and forty 40’ high cube containers and a total of four thousand five hundred freight

tons as break bulk. Individual pieces can be more than 12 meters in length and can be up to 5 meters wide weighing more than 30 tons.

Mark Harding Commercial Director has been involved from the beginning and described how he pooled resources within Cory Logistics to create a dedicated project team. Mark said, “We have all the capabilities under one roof, planning has been complex and challenging”, but maintained that Cory’s will continue to offer a competitive advantage to create small teams of dedicated experts in their field.

“We have had one person negotiating space allocation on container ships, another discussing the safe securing of out of gauge cargo and its movement in relation to UK road restrictions,

whilst a third person is chartering a vessel to carry four thousand five hundred freight tons!”

The containers are moving through Felixstowe whilst the break bulk cargo will be transported by specialist equipment to the Port of Hull for shipment to Chennai, where it will be collected and delivered to site.

Logi Trans AS’s Office, Tananger, Norway

In Uncategorized on February 24, 2010 at 4:09 pm

A lot of things have happened in and around GPLN Norway member, Logi Trans AS, the last year. We will update you in Logi Trans’s own Magne Eide’s own words:

We are very happy with the situation in Logi Trans. Every year in the history of Logi Trans, have resulted in a “best year ever”, so also for 2009. The turnover for 2009 exceeded for the first time NOK 100 mill – equivalent to US$ 17,8 mill. The result is up approx. 11,5% from 2008. Despite the recession, we are very optimistic for the future, and expect a continuous growth between 10 and 15% for 2010.

Logi Trans is a major participant in the Norwegian offshore market with long time relations to most vendors in the Norwegian offshore industry. We hold the existing local contracts with Seadrill / Seawell Group, Rowan Drilling, GE Oil & Gas (approved vendor). Several small and medium sized companies in the region are the base for the daily business.

We have during 2009 become an accredited IATA airfreight agent. In addition, we have started up our own consolidation service from Houston to Stavanger together with Logistics International Inc in Houston. In these days Logi Trans is also establishing a subsidiary company in Denmark.

One of the most important things amongst them all is the fact that we have become a member of the GPLN, and we hope this will give us a lot of exciting jobs in the future. We have received a lot of welcome greetings from the members, and we appreciate that. We are confident that our company will continue the development and growth and look forward to being of services to all customers that need a reliable logistics partner in Norway.

Heavy Cargo bound for Pasir Gudang rested on beams and elephant legs

In Uncategorized on February 17, 2010 at 4:01 pm

Do you want to know who is good?

In Uncategorized on February 15, 2010 at 12:19 pm

Yesterday I saw a Google Adword advertisement linking me to the “world’s greatest project cargo network”, I believe is how the wording went. So I was interested. I clicked on the link only to find that this company was a brand new group and I could count all of the members on one hand and they were all in the same company that the owner of the network was a partner / director of.

Hmmm… Best network in the world, huh? How does anyone honestly make that proclamation without any members? I guess this guy, who knows who he is, is comfortable with that kind of advertising. My advice to that kind of grand standing is always caveat emptor – buyer beware!

Then there is the other competitor who claims to the be world’s largest project network. But when you look at that group you will see that the majority of companies aren’t project specialists at all and are nowhere in the market.

My recommendation is that if you want to know how good a network really is, look at its members. When you see the quality of the members then you know how good the group is. That is the simple, no fail litmus test. Don’t believe anyone’s claims. Look under the hood before you buy the car.

That makes it easy, doesn’t it?

Janet Nodar of Breakbulk Magazine having a laugh at Breakbulk Asia 2010

In Uncategorized on February 14, 2010 at 4:02 pm

Magne Eide of Logi Trans AS

In Uncategorized on February 5, 2010 at 11:31 am

A word from Gary Dale…

In GPLN Updates & Announcements on January 14, 2010 at 1:18 pm

And thus starts 2010…!

This year will be a very busy year for the Global Project Logistics Network with even more travel and promotion than ever before. This year we will be attending even more exhibitions and conferences representing our membership. Expect to see you branching out from the our usual logistics events as this year we will start to see more of a focus on target industry events for such industries as oil & gas, heavy equipment, etc. There are plans in the works and you will be updated by e-mail announcements from me, web page and blog updates as well as announcements in subsequent issues of our GPLN newsletter.

I would like to remind everyone to pay attention to the calendar for our upcoming events. We will again make an appearance at the BreakBulk Asia Conference & Exhibition. This is the second event of its kind which is organized by the Journal of Commerce. We will have a fairly large booth there as usual with several members participating together. It is an excellent opportunity to meet the real players in Southeast Asia who are working daily in the oil & gas, mining and heavy industry fields. We had very good results from last year’s event and expect to continue this run in 2010.

A few weeks later we will be at the 4th Indian Ocean Ports & Logistics Conference & Exhibition in Mauritius. With this event we hope to target companies that would be in the eastern coasts of Africa, southern Arabian Peninsula as well as Sri Lanka and other nations in the Indian Ocean. The membership as a whole could benefit from qualified members in this region.

Then come the biggies…

I hope that all of you are getting prepared for our event of the year in Brazil! We have organized a large GPLN booth at Intermodal South America in São Paulo. This is one of the three logistics events biggest events in the world (along with TransRussia and Transportlogistic, which we also take part in) and this show is by far the largest event in all of Latin America. We have conveniently arranged our own GPLN global meeting this year to be three days after the Intermodal South America event. For project cargo specialists this is a huge opportunity to make inroads into Latin America as well as to meet our new members and to visit with our older members all on one trip. The details for the GPLN meeting can be found on our events page on our website. I urge you all to have a look at this as soon as possible due to the fact that we will have a limited number of rooms available at the negotiated price. So be ahead of the eight ball on this.

Finally, I want to remind you all to check our blog, Project Cargo Logistics, on a regular basis for what’s going on with our group. There are lots of photos and updates from GPLN and our membership that you might find interesting. The blog can be found at: http://ProjectCargoLogistics.gpln.net. It would be great as well if you feel like making comments and sharing our blog with others. It is excellent promotion for the group.

Best regards,

Gary Dale Cearley

Executive Director

GPLN Sponsor WWL participates in Carbon War Room event

In Blogroll, GPLN Sponsor News on January 12, 2010 at 11:56 am

The Carbon War Room's founder Sir Richard Branson, chairman José Maria Figueres, Maersk CEO Nils S. Andersen and Arild B. Iversen, CEO of Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics

Progressive shipping lines have started to increase efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions using innovative low carbon technologies.

The Carbon War Room is able to play a key role in bringing together this low carbon shipping “eco-system” as they are an independent body whose sole focus is on the delivery of a low carbon shipping economy.

On December 16th, 2009, an event took place in Copenhagen that forms part of Carbon War Room’s operation in shipping, designed to convene all stakeholders in the industry; shippers, large customers, port authorities and technology companies, around specific market-based solutions. This includes involving all the key players required and putting together sometimes-unlikely partnerships to improve economic and environmental performance.

WWL is very proud to have been part of this event that took place on December 16 in Copenhagen. The Carbon War Room’s founder Sir Richard Branson, chairman José Maria Figueres, Maersk CEO Nils S. Andersen and Arild B. Iversen, CEO of Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics all showcased how progressive shipping lines have started to increase efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions using innovative low carbon technologies.

GPLN Member Younger Niche sets a new overland record in ZhangJiaGang

In Uncategorized on January 7, 2010 at 11:33 am

Global Project Logistics Network member Younger Niche Logistics (YNL) has the distinction of being responsible for the movement of the single largest piece of equipment ever moved by road transport in ZhangJiaGang, Jiangsu Province, China. The piece, 14m x 7.4m x 7.9m / 86,000kgs, was moved by road from the supplier’s premises to PuXiang port, ZhangJiaGang. The move, covering 30 kms, took 22 hours to complete and involved the services of local ZhangJiaGang government, the police and officials from the department of electrical power.

In order to reduce height the unit was transported minus cradles. Only once alongside vessel was the unit positioned and secured in cradles.

PuXiang port, a privately owned facility, was chosen as the load port as access from suppliers whilst still difficult was the closest with less overhead obstructions than other roadways to the public port.

YNL were instrumental in obtaining berthing rights for the ocean carrier, a foreign flag vessel, at PuXiang port.

Ticona Project: Steel racks alongside the quay

In Uncategorized on January 7, 2010 at 8:40 am

On Europe Cargo’s instructions, the crew unlashed the chains and unwelded stoppers and D-rings upon arrival at the Antwperp port.

Europe Cargo’s profressional expertise in the project was highly appreciated by the receivers’ engineers!
