Janet Nodar of Breakbulk Magazine having a laugh at Breakbulk Asia 2010

In Uncategorized on February 14, 2010 at 4:02 pm

For the second year in a row the Global Project Logistics Network has shown its commitment to Breakbulk Asia. Breakbulk Asia is the largest and most important gathering in Asia for companies involved in the shipping of heavy-lift, project cargo and traditional breakbulk cargoes. It is where shippers have the opportunity to meet and develop relationships with the leading specialized carriers, forwarders, ports, terminals and packers who have the expertise and resources to handle oversized cargoes with unique handling requirements. Exhibitors include the world’s major carriers, forwarders and ports that handle specialized heavy-lift, project and breakbulk cargoes. The Breakbulk Asia event is an outgrowth of the Breakbulk Conference and Exhibition held in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the southern part of the United States since 1989 and the Breakbulk Europe event held in Antwerp since 2006. In addition to a bustling exhibition floor, Breakbulk Asia featured a two-day conference with top speakers addressing the theme "Charting the Recovery". The in-depth program delved into today’s most pressing breakbulk transportation issues: from cargo security to trade compliance and materials tracking initiatives. Speakers also discussed the hottest regions for breakbulk and project cargo, and review sectors such as oil and gas, and other power generation markets.

Plant removal from Europe to Malaysia: Overland transport of strippers on multi-axle trailers

In Uncategorized on February 10, 2010 at 4:01 pm

Trans International Logistiks Sdn Bhd, a GPLN member in Malaysia, recently completed the project cargo movements from Europe and Asia for the Synthetic Latex Global Plant located in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia with a total project volume of about 20,000 FRT.

As indirect tax exemption consultants for the project, we had successfully applied our expertise in submitting, tabulating and obtaining exemption approvals from the authorities. We also excelled in applying and obtaining import permits and governmental certification from regulatory bodies for the importation of their special equipments and machineries.

Other than general cargoes by sea, air and road transports, the project included movements of heavy lift cargoes of 3 reactors at 95 tons each and 3 strippers at 65 tons each and other over-dimensioned cargoes. For the heavy lifts, on-carriage to site was arranged on multi-axle trailers after temporary storage on elephant legs and beams so as to be in coordination with the plant site readiness and receiving management.

Trans International Logisiks was proud to report that all deliveries were executed well within the required time frames and with zero untoward incidents.

Magne Eide of Logi Trans AS

In Uncategorized on February 5, 2010 at 11:31 am

A lot of things have happened in and around GPLN Norway member, Logi Trans AS, the last year. We will update you in Logi Trans’s own Magne Eide’s own words:

We are very happy with the situation in Logi Trans. Every year in the history of Logi Trans, have resulted in a “best year ever”, so also for 2009. The turnover for 2009 exceeded for the first time NOK 100 mill – equivalent to US$ 17,8 mill. The result is up approx. 11,5% from 2008. Despite the recession, we are very optimistic for the future, and expect a continuous growth between 10 and 15% for 2010.

Logi Trans is a major participant in the Norwegian offshore market with long time relations to most vendors in the Norwegian offshore industry. We hold the existing local contracts with Seadrill / Seawell Group, Rowan Drilling, GE Oil & Gas (approved vendor). Several small and medium sized companies in the region are the base for the daily business.

We have during 2009 become an accredited IATA airfreight agent. In addition, we have started up our own consolidation service from Houston to Stavanger together with Logistics International Inc in Houston. In these days Logi Trans is also establishing a subsidiary company in Denmark.

One of the most important things amongst them all is the fact that we have become a member of the GPLN, and we hope this will give us a lot of exciting jobs in the future. We have received a lot of welcome greetings from the members, and we appreciate that. We are confident that our company will continue the development and growth and look forward to being of services to all customers that need a reliable logistics partner in Norway.
