Sharaf Logistics LLC is a prominent name in UAE and in the Middle East countries and is owned by Sharaf Group (Mr. Ibrahim Sharaf). The headquarter is based in Dubai and they have presently 4 offices in UAE with about 100 employees and 5 overseas offices with another 100 employees. All references for them were provided by our GPLN members because Sharaf Logistics are regularly using the services of various GPLN members.

The Freight Company Ltd, Bangkok is pleased to announce the employment Álvaro Martínez Guzmán in the position of Chief Representative for The Freight Company Ltd. in Vietnam. Spanish born Martinez’ background is in international relations followed by a master’s degree in marketing and sales. He spent the last 10 years working for multinational companies in the shipping and freight forwarding industry. His speciality is project forwarding including project management, chartering, heavy transports by road and sea working for EPC contractors in several countries in Asia, Middle East and South America. Besides looking after Vietnam he will be also working hand in hand with the management in Bangkok to further develop the project business in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.

GPLN will once again be offering our Heavy Transport & Lifting course at Oil & Gas Indonesia 2011. Our course is uniquely tailored to professionals working in logistics for the oil & gas industry. The course was designed with such professionals in mind. The course has been offered successfully in Singapore, Antwerp and in Aberdeen earlier this year to breakbulk professionals, whether they be working for logistics firms or as end users of project logistics services.

The course covers various aspects of heavy lifting for exceptional transports as well as load securing. A very strong emphasis on all aspects of safety during heavy transport is built into the curricula. GPLN’s Heavy Transport & Lifting course is taught by a European based certified professional engineer with more than two decades experience in the field of project transportation of extremely large cargoes. The course is taught over a full day. In addition to the course, GPLN will also be present at the exhibition with their own booth representing their membership around the world.

This is a heavy transport of a 14 MW Watertube Boiler that weighed 66,205 kg and had dimensions of 7.9 meters wide by 5.40 meters high (on a 7 axle Goldhofer hydraulic trailer with dropdeck). This particular haul was from the workshop to the port. The was only 5 cm clearance from the transport frame to the road surface and even less under the pedestrian bridge.

The Freight Company is a member of the Global Project Logistics Network GPLN and provides heavy transport and lifting services in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar (Burma).

Unlike most other forwarders in the Central American region Laninco does have a separately established and dedicated project and heavy lift department. Laninco is presently competing for approximately 8 further major projects (hydroelectric, geothermal, wind and solar, as well as private sector industrial projects) throughout the region. In addition to full blown project handling Laninco regularly moves oversized goods and heavy shipments requiring special equipment as normal. Their references included both shipping agents handling project cargo and end users in North America and in South America. Besides Costa Rica, Laninco bids and handles projects in Honduras, Nicaragua and other part of Central America as well.

Laninco is an Anglo-Costa Rican company, and recently they approximately 1,200 ton of project cargo from port side to the construction site at Las Pailas, where the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad is building a geothermal power station in joint operation with Ormat Systems Ltd. Laninco coordinated the movement from port to site of 24 heavy and out of gauge units of up to 65 tons, plus additional cargo, taking into consideration low and weak bridges which are a particular problem in Costa Rica. All cargo was cleared from port and delivered ahead of schedule. The latest shipments were the culmination of several months of logistics operations in which Laninco has moved around 2,500 tons of cargo to the site.
